Overigens bevond het op 15 maart 1929 geopende veemarktterrein zich niet op het Beverwijcksplein, maar nabij of naast het Beverwijcksplein. Er werden al eerder proeven genomen voor een veemarkt in Dordrecht, namelijk in 1873 en 1894 bij de Nieuwkerk, maar beiden mislukten. Maar ook deze veemarkt werd geen succes, want binnen 4 jaar was het klaar. Volksdichter Joris Kwistenbibel ging ook hier op los met zijn gedicht Veemarkt-Exitus, waarvan hieronder één couplet: ‚,Melkkoe" had je kunnen worden. Maar je hebt het niet gedoogd; Jij leed aan de Veemarkt-tering. En je sappen zijn verdroogd.
